So now that VR is the hot shit in town, I thought I would give it go but I’m cheap and have a spare smartphone about so I settled on a Cardboard because I can’t argue with a £10 price point. So is it a discount Gear VR or just a rattling, flimsy way to watch 360° Youtube vids?

Get the Star Wars app. There’s some neat VR stuff going on in it.

I got a free one from Google through a starwars promo, I’ve used it a few times but it with extended usage the phone gets pretty hot so watch out for that.

There’s lenses inside to focus it even if you wear glasses.

That’s a damn good point. What phone did you use by the way? Also did it make your face feel nose heavy at all. I have crappy neck which could be a problem if so.

Samsung S6, its mostly video processing so turn off anything else you don’t need running. It isn’t super heavy but it is noticeable, I found just leaning back in a high back office chair solved most of the issues. For games you are likely pushing the button anyway to interact so you naturally end up holding up part of the weight.

Regarding the image you used ... even with my glasses on, my focal depth is about 10" at the minimum.

Hmm, that’s very interesting. My Dad wears glasses and is very curious to try it.

I’m sure the Oculus Rift can deal with it ... my comment was more of a tongue-in-cheek jab at the cardboard thing to hold your mobile.

I have tried one a few times, can never get it to work right and line up the images.

I have a cardboard. It’s fun for a little while. Worth the 15 bucks to try it out.

There’s more than just cardboard.

Hmmm. Have you used one? I’ve got a cheap quadrotor with FPV ... if it actually works, this could be an interesting upgrade.

I have not, but it works the same way this does, just with a screen instead of slides.
